A grain elevator in Fontana, KS caught fire on May 2 after it was struck by lightning.

The Paola Fire Department reported the grain elevator in the area of Dorman Avenue and Stephen Street was destroyed in the morning hours.

No injuries were reported.

The incident called for a rapid response from multiple firefighting teams, including units from Miami County Fire District No. 1 in Fontana, as well as from Osawatomie, Louisburg, and Paola. Upon arrival, firefighters found the grain elevator fully engulfed in flames, and the structure collapsed shortly thereafter. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in connection with the fire.

According to The Miami County Republic, the cost of damages is estimated at $500,000.
