Arlington, VA — Jess McCluer, National Grain and Feed Association(NGFA) vice president of safety and regulatory affairs, has been named new co-chair of the National Occupational Research Agenda Agriculture, Forestry, and Fishing Sector Council (NORA AgFF Sector Council).
Jennifer M. Lincoln, PhD, CSP, associate director of the Office of Agriculture Safety and Health at NIOSH also serves as co-chair.
“I’m honored to serve as co-chair of NORA AgFF Sector Council and look forward to continued collaboration and partnerships that have been the foundation the Council’s excellent work in protecting the safety of workers serving a critical role in providing food, fuel, and fiber for the United States and around the globe,” McCluer said in a press release.
“During my time on the council, I will strive to continue the advancement of NORA’s vital mission to achieve sustained improvements in workplace practice.”
McCluer also serves as chair on the Board of Directors for the Agricultural Safety and Health Council of America (ASHCA) which seeks to proactively address ongoing and emerging occupational safety and health issues affecting all facets of U.S. agriculture.
ASHCA also hosts the annual North American Agricultural Safety Summit. Previous NORA AgFF Sector Council co-chairs have been Dr. Barbara Lee and Dan Hair MSS, CSP.
"Jess McCluer’s past and current work is an excellent fit,” Lincoln said. “We believe Jess’s addition to the council will increase collaboration opportunities and partnerships between industry and the sector council, which is of great interest to our membership.
"Also, Jess’s work with ASHCA, an organization with a complementary mission but unique areas of expertise and focus areas, will also help the council promote research and best practices across the sector.”
The NORA Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing Council brings together individuals and organizations to share information, form partnerships, and promote adoption and dissemination of health and safety solutions.
NORA uses councils made up of a diverse group of stakeholders (academia, industry, government, etc.) to define and meet high priority needs and develop agendas for research, policy, and practice.
The council also seeks to facilitate the most important research, understand the most effective intervention strategies, and learn how to implement those strategies to achieve sustained improvements in workplace practice.
The council meets officially twice a year and its next meeting will be held virtually Nov. 16-17.
