Ocheyedan, IA — Cooperative Farmers Elevator was honored with the Kirk Grau Innovation Award at the Sept. 9 partner meeting of Northwest Iowa Development in Hawarden.

The award was presented for CFE's 700,000-tpy slipform concrete feed mill project in Ocheyedan. The mill began production on Feb. 14, 2019.

The $26 million mill was built to meet the growing demand for swine feed. It is located next to CFE's 5 million-bushel grain elevator at the coop's headquarters site.

The co-op implemented new technology to better sort and process its grain for a higher yield, more consistent product and overall higher-quality mill for farmers.

The project was featured in the March/April 2019 GRAIN JOURNAL. With more than 3,000 members, CFE has more than 300 employees at 10 feed mill locations.
