The derecho storm that swept across the Midwest on Aug. 10, leveled corn and soybean fields and left crumpled steel grain storage tanks in its wake.
Iowa lost up to 120 million bushels of commercial and on-farm grain storage capacity, according to Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig, who spoke with Grain Journal contributor Stu Ellis for this latest Grain Talk podcast.
Naig discusses the impact of the storm on fields, storage, short- and long-term recovery and a visit from President Donald Trump.
In addition to federal help with Iowa's recovery, Naig said, the president also heard about small-refinery renewable fuels exemptions and ongoing trade concerns that affect Iowa's agriculture industry.
