Former North Dakota State University Extension specialist and professor Dave Franzen has compiled more than five decades of soil fertility expertise into “The North Dakota Soil and Fertilizer Resource,” an online publication for agronomists, farmers, scientists and industry professionals.

The resource covers North Dakota soils, soil fertility, production systems and agronomic challenges. It also provides information to help growers and crop consultants adopt new practices and make changes to fertilizer rates and input choices. It also discusses how no-till and no-till-like soil management can reduce dependence on some fertilizer rates and lessen the impact of drought on crop yields compared with tillage-intensive systems.

The publication is intended to serve as a comprehensive resource for managing and maintaining soil fertility in North Dakota.

Advances in GPS and automatic equipment controllers also allow growers to test management practices and inputs in their own fields.

“The North Dakota Soil and Fertilizer Resource” is available online through NDSU Extension at ag.ndsu.edu/NDsoilresource.
