An estimated 500 fourth-grade students from Warren County, Kentucky, will participate in the 31st annual Progressive Agriculture Safety Days program Sept. 24 at Western Kentucky University’s L.D. Brown Agricultural Exposition Center.
The field trip will provide students with an interactive educational experience focused on safety topics they may encounter in everyday life. Students will rotate through sessions covering sun protection, hearing protection, helmet use, first aid, animal safety, vaping prevention, fire safety and CPR.
Educational sessions will run from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. During lunch, students will participate in an electrical safety presentation sponsored and presented by Warren Rural Electric Cooperative Corp.
The event is sponsored by the South Central Area Health Education Center in partnership with the Kentucky Partnership for Farm Family Health and Safety Inc.
The Progressive Agriculture Safety Days program is recognized as the largest rural safety and health education program for children in North America. The program provides training and resources for local communities to conduct one-day safety and health programs that are age-appropriate, hands-on, engaging and safe for children. The Kentucky Partnership is one of the original organizations involved in the program.
More than 100 volunteers from community agencies, along with WKU students and faculty, will contribute their time and expertise to support the community-based educational event.
