Iowa fuel terminals distributed more than 46 million gallons of E15 in August, marking the second-highest monthly total on record, according to fuel tax data released by the Iowa Department of Revenue.

Based on projections from the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association, E15 is on track to surpass E10 as Iowa's top-selling fuel in 2026.

August sales trailed only the record 48 million gallons of E15 sold in May. The results continue a strong year of growth for the ethanol blend and reflect increasing demand for E15 as more Iowa retailers offer the fuel year-round.

E15 typically costs consumers 15 cents or more per gallon less than E10. The fuel also supports demand for Iowa-grown corn and contributes to the domestic fuel supply.

The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association said it will continue advocating for year-round, nationwide access to E15, citing consumer savings, greater fuel choice and increased demand for domestically produced renewable fuels.
