Cargill’s Animal Nutrition and Health business has opened a new retail feed facility in Granger, Washington, expanding its ability to supply animal feed to agricultural retailers and producers across the Pacific Northwest.
The facility is designed to modernize feed production and packaging practices through technology focused on product quality, worker safety and production efficiency. Technologies include automated bag check weighing, ultra-low tolerance mixing and dosing systems, artificial intelligence-based bag sealing assurance, pedestrian sensing for mobile powered equipment and full automation across production lines.
The facility can produce and package 120,000 tons of animal feed annually and adds 21 jobs to the local community. Cargill said the operation is expected to eliminate more than 2 million truck miles and 5,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually by increasing regional production capacity.
The facility supports multiple feed forms, including meals, pellets, crumbles, grains, textured and blended products. It will serve species including equine, poultry, sheep, rabbits and wildlife, while also supporting the needs of lifestyle and backyard farmers.
The stand-alone operation is located on the same site as Cargill’s bulk dairy feed mill. It includes pellet mills, packaging lines, a warehouse, offices, employee breakrooms and locker rooms.
The Granger team will increase the availability of Cargill brands including Nutrena, Loyall Life, Black Gold, SafeChoice, NatureWise and Nature’s Canvas on retail shelves throughout the region.
Cargill said the investment is intended to provide additional capacity as demand for animal feed grows in the western United States and to support current and future agricultural retail partners.
