Teagasc is launching a series of fodder clinics to help farmers in drought-affected areas plan feed supplies for the remainder of 2026 and into spring 2027.
The clinics begin Wednesday, Aug. 26, at Teagasc offices in Portlaoise, Tullamore and Naas, Ireland. Additional clinics are scheduled over the following week in Teagasc offices serving Carlow, Wicklow, Wexford, Kilkenny, Waterford, Tipperary, East Cork, Louth and Meath, Ireland.
Farmers attending the clinics are encouraged to bring information on existing fodder stocks and the number of livestock expected to be on their farms during the next nine months. This information will help advisers develop individual fodder plans and identify potential feed requirements for the months ahead.
The clinics are part of Teagasc's broader advisory effort to help farmers manage feed and fodder requirements following drought conditions. Early planning is intended to help farmers make informed decisions about their farm enterprises and prepare for winter and spring feed needs.
Teagasc also will host a series of webinars providing practical advice and updated information for farmers in the regions most affected by the drought. The webinars are scheduled to begin the week of Aug. 31.
The first two webinars will be held Thursday evening, Aug. 27, for the Teagasc Carlow/Wicklow/Wexford advisory region and the Meath/Louth/Dublin advisory region.
Topics covered will include fodder budgeting, diet formulation, livestock numbers, the use of catch crops and decisions about when, or whether, to apply fertilizer and slurry.
Teagasc is encouraging farmers affected by the drought to engage with advisers early to assess available fodder supplies and develop plans for the months ahead.
