The American Soybean Association is urging lawmakers to continue bipartisan negotiations on the Agricultural Act of 2026 after the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry did not advance the legislation during its markup on Aug. 6.
The bill was tabled for further consideration, delaying progress on a bipartisan five-year farm bill that soybean growers say is needed to provide stability for the agricultural sector.
According to the association, soybean farmers continue to face a difficult economic environment driven by rising input costs, low commodity prices and ongoing trade uncertainty. The group said the delay extends uncertainty for producers already dealing with financial pressures.
ASA called on lawmakers to use the August congressional recess to continue negotiations, meet with farmers and agricultural stakeholders, and address the remaining issues preventing the legislation from moving forward.
The association said it wants the Senate to return in September prepared to advance a comprehensive five-year farm bill that provides producers with the certainty and support needed to navigate current economic challenges.
