The U.S. Grains & BioProducts Council recently expanded its outreach in India's aquaculture sector, highlighting the nutritional and sustainability benefits of U.S. distiller's dried grains with solubles, or DDGS, for shrimp production.
Carlos F. Suárez, the council's director of global sustainability, traveled to India with the organization's South Asia team to promote U.S. DDGS to aquaculture producers. The effort focused on positioning the sustainability attributes of U.S. products and demonstrating tools developed by the council to support market access in India, the world's second largest shrimp exporter.
Suárez was joined by Deputy Regional Director for South Asia Arup Mitra, Regional Consultant Amit Sachdev and Program Manager Monika Madan.
During the visit, the team met with representatives from seven aquaculture companies to discuss the role of U.S. DDGS in shrimp diets. The council highlighted the ingredient's nutritional value and its potential to reduce the environmental impact of feed manufacturing and aquaculture operations.
The meetings also showcased the council's Sustainable Grain Exports platform, along with its Corn Sustainability Assurance Protocol and Sorghum Sustainability Assurance Protocol. The programs are designed to provide sustainability documentation that helps importers and end users meet market requirements while improving competitiveness in export markets.
Following the meetings, several companies registered with the Sustainable Grain Exports platform, strengthening their connections with U.S. feed grains.
According to the council, participating companies expressed interest in U.S. DDGS because of their consistent quality, competitive pricing and sustainability documentation available through the Corn Sustainability Assurance Protocol at no additional cost.
The council said the outreach also strengthened its technical and commercial presence in India's aquaculture industry while helping identify potential partners for future conferences and networking events aimed at expanding awareness of U.S. feed grains and corn co-products.
