The National Corn Growers Association joined 104 other organizations in urging members of the U.S. House of Representatives to support legislation that would expand domestic manufacturing capacity for biobased products, including corn-based materials and chemicals.
The groups sent a joint letter in support of H.R. 8137, which would create new tax incentives to encourage investment in U.S. biomanufacturing facilities and increase production of renewable materials made from U.S.-grown biomass.
Supporters said the legislation would help strengthen the nation's manufacturing base, improve supply chain resilience and support growth of the domestic bioeconomy through increased investment in biomanufacturing.
The organizations also said the measure would create new economic opportunities for rural communities, expand market opportunities for farmers and provide consumers with more product choices. They added that increasing domestic production of biobased materials would reduce reliance on foreign supply chains while improving U.S. competitiveness and strengthening national security.
For corn producers, the legislation could provide an additional source of demand by encouraging greater use of corn-based feedstocks in manufacturing.
The NCGA has made expanding corn demand a key priority. The organization recently released a strategy outlining plans to increase demand for corn across multiple sectors in the coming weeks and months.
