The National Grain and Feed Association has named Evan Dean as vice president of government and legislative affairs, effective July 13.
Dean will lead the association's federal advocacy efforts and help advance policy priorities for the grain, feed, processing and export industries.
Dean joins NGFA from the office of U.S. Rep. Mike Flood, R-Neb., where he most recently served as legislative director. In that role, he advised Flood on legislative strategy and policy, managed a portfolio that included agriculture, trade, energy, transportation and telecommunications, and supervised the legislative team. He also worked with congressional offices, federal agencies, industry stakeholders and agricultural organizations on policy initiatives.
According to NGFA, Dean developed an understanding of the grain and feed industry while representing Nebraska's 1st Congressional District, where the association's Harvest Economy report found the industry supports more than 15,000 jobs and generates nearly $5.5 billion in economic impact.
Before becoming legislative director, Dean served as a legislative assistant for Flood, overseeing agriculture, trade, appropriations, energy, telecommunications and natural resources policy. During that time, he worked on sustainable aviation fuel initiatives, supported federal funding for agricultural research priorities and engaged with agricultural stakeholders across Nebraska. He also worked on transportation issues affecting the movement of agricultural goods.
Earlier in his career, Dean served as a legislative correspondent for U.S. Rep. Greg Pence, R-Ind., and previously worked in the office of Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C.
Dean earned a bachelor's degree in public policy leadership from the University of Mississippi, graduating magna cum laude.
