The Trump administration on Thursday sent a supplemental budget request to Congress that includes a renewed push to permanently authorize year-round sales of E15 and provide $10 billion in economic assistance for farmers.
The request aligns with long-standing priorities of corn growers and ethanol advocates, who have argued that permanent access to E15 would expand domestic demand for corn while offering consumers another fuel choice at the pump.
The National Corn Growers Association welcomed the proposal, saying it reflects continued support from the administration for legislative approval of year-round E15 sales. The group also pointed to bipartisan backing in the U.S. House of Representatives, where lawmakers previously advanced legislation aimed at resolving the issue.
NCGA President Jed Bower said the organization is now urging the Senate to act quickly to finalize the measure and provide long-term certainty for farmers, fuel retailers and consumers.
E15, a gasoline blend containing 15% ethanol, has remained a key policy focus for the ethanol industry and corn producers, who view expanded access as an important market development tool. Supporters say making year-round sales permanent would eliminate seasonal restrictions that have limited broader adoption.
In addition to the E15 provision, the administration’s budget request includes $10 billion in economic assistance for farmers, a move NCGA said recognizes the financial challenges facing producers as they contend with tighter margins and uncertain market conditions.
Corn industry leaders said the assistance would provide near-term support while the sector continues pursuing growth opportunities through expanded ethanol demand and other market channels.
