The U.S. Grains & BioProducts Council strengthened its outreach to China’s livestock and feed sectors during the 23rd China Animal Husbandry Expo in Chengdu, where representatives promoted U.S. feed grains and expanded industry contacts.

USGBC Senior Program Coordinator Linda Li and consultant Xiaoming Wang represented the council at the U.S. Pavilion, organized by the U.S. Agricultural Trade Office in China, during the event, which drew more than 100,000 attendees.

The expo gave the council an opportunity to promote U.S. feed grains, with a particular focus on sorghum, to Chinese importers and end-users in one of the world’s largest feed ingredient markets.

Li presented at the U.S. Livestock Industry Seminar, where she outlined findings from the council’s 2025-26 Sorghum Harvest Quality Report. Her presentation highlighted U.S. sorghum’s tannin-free composition, palatability and competitive pricing as advantages for Chinese livestock producers looking to reduce feed costs.

The presentation also pointed to growing trade opportunities between the United States and China, with sorghum positioned as a cost-effective option for the country’s hog, poultry and livestock sectors.

Outside the seminar, Li and Wang met with major Chinese agribusinesses, including Muyuan Group, China’s largest hog producer, and Sichuan-based Teiqilishi Food Co. The discussions offered insight into sourcing strategies among large-scale livestock and agrifood companies.

The council also connected with a pigeon breeder producing 400,000 birds annually, a niche market that may present new opportunities for U.S. sorghum exports. The breeder indicated interest in sorghum as feed because pigeons can consume whole grain sorghum without processing, reducing handling costs and simplifying feeding operations.

USGBC said the meetings and interactions at the expo provided valuable market intelligence as China’s livestock industry continues to evolve, helping position U.S. feed grains for future growth in the market.
