The Georgia Department of Agriculture's Animal Feed Program has achieved full implementation of the Animal Food Regulatory Program Standards following an assessment by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The assessment, conducted Feb. 26, 2026, by the FDA's Human Foods Program, evaluated the department's compliance with the Animal Food Regulatory Program Standards, commonly known as AFRPS. Results confirmed full implementation of the nationally recognized framework.
AFRPS establishes a uniform system for regulating animal food programs across the United States. The standards are designed to strengthen regulatory oversight, support animal health and promote food safety throughout the supply chain.
The achievement recognizes the Georgia Department of Agriculture's efforts to meet federal regulatory benchmarks for animal food oversight. Full implementation indicates the state's animal feed program aligns with national standards for program management, inspection activities, enforcement and industry outreach.

Harper. “This accomplishment reflects our team’s commitment to protecting animal health, supporting Georgia producers and ensuring the safety of our food supply from the ground up. The accomplishment also reflects ongoing collaboration between the Georgia Department of Agriculture and the FDA in advancing consistent animal food safety standards and regulatory practices.
