The Illinois Soybean Association (ISA) applauds the advancement of the federal farm bill out of the U.S. House Committee on Agriculture with a 34 - 17 vote, making the first major step toward the passage of a farm bill in nearly eight years.
Congress last enacted a full five-year farm bill in 2018. Since then, farmers have operated under temporary extensions, creating uncertainty for producers facing rising input costs, volatile markets and global competition.
“We greatly appreciate the members of Congress who supported moving this legislation forward,” said Bryan Severs, ISA Chairman. “Illinois soybean farmers depend on a strong, modernized farm bill to provide risk management tools, strengthen market opportunities, and reinforce the food and energy security of our nation.”
ISA specifically thanks Illinois Representatives Mike Bost and Mary Miller for their support of the legislation in committee.
“We thank Congressman Bost and Congresswoman Miller for their support of this legislation,” Severs added. “Advancing the farm bill out of committee sends a clear message that protecting American agriculture remains a priority.”
Illinois is the top soybean-producing state in the nation, and a modernized farm bill is crucial to maintaining the competitiveness of Illinois growers and supporting rural communities across the state.
