A grain elevator fire in Mayville, North Dakota was successfully contained on November 16. The fire began shortly before 8 p.m., and the structure had collapsed after an hour of burning, according to Traill County Sheriff Steve Hunt.

Fire Chief Rich Hart announced the containment of the fire on the department's Facebook page, asking residents to avoid the scene as the elevator is still being monitored and will likely "smolder for a few days", and that "small flare-ups are expected and normal".

The cause of the fire is currently unknown. The department held an after action meeting to discuss what went well and what went wrong with the response, according to the Mayville Fire Facebook page.

According to Sheriff Hunt, officials will share a press release on Sunday with more details about the fire.
