Last week, U.S. Grains & BioProducts Council (USGBC) Marketing Specialist Angélica Ríos and USGBC Regional Consultant for Latin America (LTA) Alejandro González traveled to Guayaquil, Ecuador to attend AquaExpo 2025, one of the region’s most influential shrimp industry events drawing more than 10,000 attendees interested in nutritional and technological advances in shrimp farming.

“The main points of discussion were around the growth of Ecuador’s shrimp industry, that has seen a 7.7 percent jump in production this year,” Ríos said. “Aquaculture’s surging popularity and U.S. producers’ proximity to the region presents an opportunity for U.S. growers in the market.”

Disease prevention, higher-nutrient feed formulations, feed management across growth stages and global market dynamics for both shrimp demand and inputs were other hot topics discussed at the event.

Ríos was also invited to the participate in the World Organization of Women in Aquaculture’s panel, “Women Transforming History, Cultivating the Aquaculture Future,” held prior to AquaExpo, to discuss her role in the Council’s mission of developing markets, enabling trade and improving lives.

“In addition to the technical sessions at the conference, we held meetings with key stakeholders, including cross-sector associations, Chamber leadership and strategic links in the supply chain, to strategize about enhancing the use of U.S. corn co-products in fish diets in Ecuador and the broader region,” Ríos said.
