Demolition, testing and restoration efforts continue after the Skyland Grain elevator explosion back in March that left five employees injured.
Skyland Grain serves as a grain handling and storage facility for four states.
This includes local farmers around Sunray.
According to Skyland Grain, farmers deliver crops to the elevator to be stored and then bought by Skyland.
Officials say 16 people were employed at the Sunray Grain elevator at the time of the incident.
In an email a Skyland spokesperson wrote “We are progressing with demolition in coordination with government regulatory agencies, safety experts, and engineers. We are looking forward to receiving corn this harvest, and we are planning to rebuild part of our facilities in order to continue to serve area farmers.”
A water test is also being done on large amounts of water still trapped in the basement of the elevator to ensure safe disposal.
Skyland officials say the basement is used to move grain throughout the facility.
As of right now we do not have an update on those who were injured in the incident.
