Five people were injured and taken to area hospitals for treatment following an explosion March 28 at the Skyland Grain elevator in Sunray, TX.
Power to the entire community of Sunray was immediately cut off in attempts to limit and mitigate subsequent fires or possible explosions.
All other people at the facility were accounted for, and residents around the elevator who had been evacuated as a precaution were allowed to return home over the weekend. Responding crews also worked to restore natural gas and electrical service to the community of 1,709 people in the Texas Panhandle.
The Moore County Sheriff’s Office said engineers completed an assessment of the elevator building and determined the structure to be stable, posing no immediate significant risk to the public. The cause of the explosion has not been determined.
