The IGP Institute in late January hosted the Kansas State University (KSU)-Grain Elevator Processing Society (GEAPS) Grain Elevator Managers course on the KSU campus in Manhattan.

The four-day course was designed to benefit those who supervise grain elevator operations. It focused on the science behind the practices used in grain management and provided managers with the information needed to correctly interpret the work experiences they will encounter.

Topics covered include: grain receiving, logistics, storage, inventory management, human resources, maintenance, grain handling equipment, grain aeration strategies, fumigation, and how to work in a safe environment.

Participants also gained hands-on experience through a tour of the Hal Ross Flour Mill, Hands-On Training equipment, and a group exercise to challenge their knowledge.

The course offered insights from industry experts who have managed a facility, along with professors and instructors at KSU with experience related to grain handling and operations.

“This was a fantastic course. I’m glad I got the opportunity to come,” said Tony Dowse, who was one of 19 course participants.
