Fall Protection tops the list for the 14th consecutive year

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in September announced its preliminary top 10 most-frequently-cited workplace safety standards for fiscal year 2024.
Generally, OSHA does not post the top 10 violations until after the first week in April so as to allow the prior fiscal year’s inspection data to finalize past the close of the fiscal year on Sept. 30.
Fall Protection – General Requirements remains at the top of the list for the 14th year in a row, followed by Hazard Communication and Ladders.
The top 10 most-frequently-cited workplace safety standards for fiscal year 2024 are:
- Fall Protection – General Requirements (1926.501): 6307 violations
- Hazard Communication (1910.1200): 2888
- Ladders (1926.1053): 2573
- Respiratory Protection (1910.134): 2470
- Lockout/Tagout (1910.147): 2443
- Powered Industrial Trucks (1910.178): 2248
- Fall Protection – Training Requirements (1926.503): 2050

“While incredible advancements are made in safety each year, we continue to see many of the same types of violations appear on OSHA’s top 10 list,” said Lorraine Martin, president and CEO of the National Safety Council. “As a safety community, it’s critical we come together to acknowledge these persistent trends and identify solutions to better protect our workforces.”
